The NEW Movable Class PLUS Smokin' Intuitive Sessions
There's No Comparison

Hi [[FirstName]]

And the success stories just keep rolling in!  I don't have all the particulars.  But one of my acting and branding students, Diannah Morgan, couldn't wait to tell me this amazing audition story.  She was directed at the studio gate to park far from an audition site.  Fearing she couldn't walk the distance, she called to give her apologies.  And someone actually came out and auditioned her in her car!   I haven't been able to get the entire scoop  yet because she got the part and is shooting today.  My small coterie of students also had four commercials among them last week.  As well as two play openings.  I'm glowing with pride!  And more next week about Diannah's unique audition.

In this eZine, you'll be getting previews of all my great Art and Soul columns to inspire you.  Plus Acting Tips and Intuitive Tricks.   Hot ideas highlighted in such popular hits as The Secret and What the Bleep Do you Know?. With a performance slant. Available nowhere else!

AND my latest Acting-Out scripts.

Today, I'm sending you There's No Comparison, thoughts on the BRANDact process.

WOW! Introducing the Movable Class

Since my students are booking up the kazoo, I'm announcing a new concept in acting classes!  The movable class.  Here's how it works.  You pay my same low fee for four consecutive classes.  My Saturday class will continue with its in-depth concentration on technique and scene work.  But if you can't get there, you can book a movable class that week or take a make-up instead and attend the next one that fits into your schedule.

I’m going to list four or five times during the week when I can teach movable classes in an e-mail that I'll send you every Sunday evening.  You can sign up to receive these e-mails by clicking on www.actingintuitive.com and scrolling to the bottom of the home page.  The current week's Movable Classes will also be listed there.

If I get two or more people to commit to one of those posted times, we'll have a class.   We'll focus upon cold reading, audition techniques . . . and using the power of your brand to win that role!

So, if you can't study on Saturday, or, like three of my students last week, you have last-minute acting gigs or important auditions, this class may be an important training option for you. The Benefits of the Movable Class are as follows:

  • Flexibility
  • An easy way to get in a class every week if you're a busy actor
  • Change in focus from ongoing in-depth scene work to audition skills and branding
  • The same GREAT Act Intuitive technique

Act Intuitive . . . my new fusion of Grotowski, Method and active imagery, which I call Acting-Out, taps rapidly into muscle memory to free expression quicker and easier than any other technique I've taken or taught.  Ever!  Get in touch at 323.225.9850 or jill@actingintuitive.com to find out more.  Or to get the scoop on the BRAND-NEW Movable Classes!

There's No Comparison

I have to admit that I went off at a dear friend a few weeks ago.  He had taken my BRANDact workshop back in February and was still struggling with branding himself.  Hoping to end the struggle, he sent me an e-mail comparing himself to a famous actor.  When I read it, my stomach tangled in anger.  And I flew!

I wrote him back, " Never, never, NEVER in any way compare yourself to another actor no matter how much you admire them.  If you do, you give your power away to them.  And they have enough power!  You have to find your own uniqueness .

It just drives me BATS when actors say things like . . . "well, I'm kinda half Barbarella-era Jane Fonda, half Kathy Bates in Misery ".  One actor I know actually described himself as "Tobey Maguire with a Brando Edge".  What does that mean?   Is he Cider House Rules Tobey Maguire or beefed-up oddball Spiderman Tobey Maguire? Is he animal-magnetism Streetcar Brando or bloated Godfather Brando?  And how does that comparison describe his acting and his onscreen essence?

Maybe it's the desire to BE as good as someone famous that spurs the comparison.  Maybe you just want to BE them.  Or maybe you just don't want to look at yourself.  And see how magnificent YOU are instead.  After all, many actors become actors because they like being someone else.  So really exposing your insides in any other way than treading on the stage is not only foreign.  It's downright scary.

I've  branded actors with impressive resumes that you see on TV every day.  Or, should I say, tried to brand them.  Because they just can't own their essences.  As actors and as a human beings.  Which is what branding is all about.   Beah Richards, the extraordinary Academy Award-nominated actress who inspired generations with her truth and majesty, said, "it is not about making your living as an actor; it is about you living as a human being".

So you have to burrow deep into your soul . . . where you live . . . to brand yourself.  There's no room for comparisons here.  It's true of branding any business.  But, since your being is your business, branding gets alot more personal for actors.  Or acting coaches for that matter.

And I also have to admit that I've never branded myself before using the BRANDact process.  I've used the phrase "Make acting magic" for years.  But it's not specific enough.  And really doesn't tell you what I do.

So here goes . . . I'm workin' my process!   I'm not comparing myself to anyone else.  I'm highlighting what's most unique about me.  I'm focusing upon what distinguishes me from other coaches.  And I'm using descriptive language.  Ta Da!  My new brand is . . . " Intuitive acting coach who harnesses the stars to train the stars".  Or "I harness the stars to train the stars".

Ahhh, I LOVE it.  Because it's not only alot more specific.  And goes with my starry picture.  But it fulfills the last branding requirement.   It affects people emotionally.  Atleast it affects me emotionally.  So if you finally come up with a brand.  And run it by a few people.  And they make pleasing sounds like "OOOhh" or "Ahhhh", you know you're in the ballpark.  If, on the other hand, you get no pleasing sounds.  Or even a smile.  And instead are met with a quizzical look.  Or a grunt.  It's time to rethink what you wrote.  Would love your feedback on my new brand.  Pleasing sound or quizzical look?

As you can see, this process sometimes takes a long time.  I finally branded an actor who, after months in class and several intuitive sessions,  was ready to move forward in his career.  He was psychically linked to a samurai personna.  And his acting was edgy in a good-boy-gone-bad way.  So when we came up with the brand "Sophisticated Samurai with Ex-acting Edge", everything clicked.  He currently has the lead in a BBC miniseries as . . . guess what . . . a samurai.

Now I'm not saying he's going to play samurais forever.  But this is his breakthrough role.  The right brand gets you in the door.  It names, claims and empowers your Actor-Business.  Comparing yourself to another actor ennervates it instead.

So If you're ready to brand yourself, empower your acting and get that breakthrough role today, I'd love to help you out.   Go here to read about my BRANDact process and the many actors who have had huge career successes.  But no comparisons please!
