Movable Classes Now for One or More
Acting-Out for
Relaxation

Hi [[FirstName]]

Happy 4th of July! Hope
you're
kicking back from auditioning and your Actor-Business and spending some quality BBQ, beach or sun-basking time today. I've just come back from watching all the fireworks. Since I live on a hill, I can see every display from the Rose Bowl to the Queen Mary. The best way to celebrate I know. Maybe you'll join us next year?
Today I'm sending you
some kick-back ideas with Acting-Out for Relaxation
.
Oh,
and do me a favor and go here to read some great things
actors have to say about Act Intuitive.
[NOTE:
Some words in this e Zine have been disguised to
avoid triggering sp^m filters.]

Movable Classes Now for One or
More
I've decided to open the Movable Classes to anyone who
wants to come . . . even if it's only one actor.
This is a great way to get a private or
semi-private session for a class price. Simply check the
schedule by going to
www.actingintuitive.com and
scrolling to the bottom of my home page. The
current week's Movable Class times are listed there. Or
sign up the get on the Movable Class List and I'll send you
e-mail reminders every Sunday night.
But, here's the
deal. You've got to call me either at 323.225.9850 or
323.842.9850 no later than midnight before for a day class or
four hours before for an evening class. For example,
call me no later than 3pm to attend to 7pm class.
So, if
you can't take the
Intensive on Saturdays, these classes may be an important training
option for you. The Benefits of the Movable Class are as
follows:
- Flexibility
- An easy way to get in a class every week
if you're a busy actor
- Focus
on cold reading and audition skills
- Option to pay a
four-week or per-class fee
- The same
GREAT Act Intuitive technique

Acting-Out For
Relaxation
The basis of all
great acting is relaxation. Lee Strasberg said, "In order to
act, the actor must relax". And I don't know any other
technique that focuses upon relaxation like Method does. The
idea is to break the bonds of holding habitual tension or
physical fear all the way down to a cellular level. The
end result is an organic restructuring of your expressive
apparatus
That's not to
say that some tension isn't good. In reality, we need muscular
tension to hold up our bodies. So the result of this work
shouldn't make you a limp rag or a Raggedy Ann doll. But like
setting the sails of a sailboat so that the course is smooth
without constantly correcting it, we're looking to release
whatever is holding you back from sailing into the moment with
expressive impulse. So that you can, as Spencer Tracy says,
"just behave".
Method relaxation helped me so much when I was
acting. So, when I created Act Intuitive,
I was sure to combine the best of that technique with
Grotowski's plastiques and my Acting-Out active imagery.
With some sense memory thrown in for good
measure.
If
you'd like to do this or any other Acting-Out script, speak it
slowly into a recorder, pausing briefly every time you
see three dots. Then find a space to move
and play it back. While you're doing the
script, make sure that you push through habitual
movement to find a new understanding of your muscular and
impulsive memory.
Lie on your back on
the floor. Takes some 3/4 breaths in through your nose, hold for
a
couple of counts, then breathe out through your nose . . .
Breathe in and fill your lungs about 3/4ers full, hold, hold, breathe out
. . . Breathe in and fill your lungs about 3/4ers full, hold, hold, breathe out
. . . Breathe in and fill your lungs about
3/4ers full, hold, hold, breathe out.
Continue to breathe normally and notice that you're
lying on the grass. Feel the clothing on your body as you're
lying on the grass . . . where it's smooth, where it bunches,
where there's slight pockets of sweat in places . . . Stretch
your whole body to feel the clothing and the grass . . .
Now
stretch your whole body fully in the grass with a big "Ahhh"
sound . . . Now notice places that need extra stretching.
Stretch them one at a time, making sounds if you'd like,
rocking if you'd like . . . Do whatever your body needs to do
. . . Roll over on your stomach and do the same, feeling the
grass on your bare skin . . . Feel the sensation of the grass
heighten on your skin . . . allow your body to move if
whatever way the impulse strikes you.
Whenever you' feel the need, push yourself up . . .
noticing how the sensation of the grass changes as you get up
. . . how you feel it under your hands, then on your knees,
then on the soles of your feet. Run in the grass . . . run,
run, run. Do whatever your impulses tell you to do . . .
Now see
a stream. See stepping stones in the stream. Cross the stream
on the stones. They're far apart so you have to stretch your
body to get to the next one . . . Now you fall in. Feel the
water on your skin . . . Step back up on the stones and
continue to the other side . . .
Step
out on the grass . . . Shake off the water . . . Feel your
clothes again.. See how the sensation has changed now that
they're wet . . . Shake some more . . . See a thick-trunked
tree just a few yards away . . . Go hug the tree. Feel the
rough bark on your skin. Stretch your back and legs . . .
Really hug the tree . . .
Continue to explore
the grass, the stream, the pond. Or stretching and
relaxing in any way you'd like.
